Growing Conditions - Detailed
Family: Liliaceae
Planting time
Late Summer to Autumn.
Height
About 25cm tall.
Depth & spacing
6cm deep & 5-10cm apart.
Aspect
Full-sun to part-shade. Great for under trees.
Soil
Well drained especially in the summer months when they are dormant underground. A rich soil is best so add nice organic matter, compost and well rotted manures and mix it into the soil.
Watering
Start watering when growth appears and keep soil slightly moist until foliage dies off after flowering. It is ideal to keep bulbs relatively dry whilst dormant.
Fertilising
Bulbs don't need food when they're dormant (i.e. no shoots above ground as they are sleeping then). The important time to fertilise is when they start to sprout above ground.
For best results use a complete liquid fertiliser like our Nutrafeed Flower and Fruit Booster once you see your bluebells sprouting above ground and continue to give them a feed every 2 weeks until the foliage has completely died off.
Flowering time
Early Spring.
After flowering care
These bulbs can be left undisturbed for years to naturalise. We have them planted under trees and in our field of flowers amongst grass.
Be sure to get them, in large quantities to have the beautiful effect you see in the photos here.
