Here’s a beautiful and practical way to label, name or personalise areas of your garden and veggie patch – a handcrafted Timber Chalk Sign, made right here in our Glenhaven workshop by Brian and his son Jimmy.

Each sign is carefully built using repurposed Australian hardwood timber salvaged from old fence posts. This gives every piece its own unique character, with natural marks and grain that tell a story and add to its rustic charm. No treated pine is used, making it perfectly safe to use around your fruit, veggie and herb gardens.

Instead of a painted board, we’ve used a genuine sheet of slate – just like the old-school chalkboards and tablets our grandparents would remember from school. It not only looks beautiful but is incredibly durable and well suited to outdoor conditions.

The sign comes fitted with two steel eyelets at the top, giving you plenty of options when it comes to installation. You can hang it from above using rope, chain or hooks (not included), or simply screw it directly to a post, fence or raised bed. We hung ours up with two fence posts connected together and a little bit of decorative metal scroll. The eyelets can also be easily removed by unwinding them with a long screwdriver.

Included with each sign is a liquid chalk marker, so you can create your own custom artwork. The ink won’t wash off in the rain, but when you’re ready to change things up, it wipes clean with a damp cloth.

Perfect for veggie and herb gardens, memorial gardens, a front door or even a "KEEP OUT" sign on the treehouse!

To create your own design, either work freehand with the liquid chalk pen, or

1️⃣ First design on a computer and print out on an A4 sheet.

2️⃣ Use the white carbon paper (provided) to trace the design onto the slate using a ball point pen. 

3️⃣ Carefully 'colour in' the outline using a liquid chalk marker or permament paint marker. Note this takes about 1 hour per side to do it carefully. Quite therapeutic. :-)
